SHG Development Project

Self Help Group Development

About the Project

The Self Help Group (SHG) Development project aims to empower women in rural communities through financial inclusion and entrepreneurship. By forming and nurturing women's self-help groups, we provide a platform for economic empowerment, social solidarity, and community development.

Project Objectives

  • Form and strengthen women's self-help groups in rural areas
  • Facilitate access to financial services through group savings and credit
  • Provide training in financial literacy and business management
  • Support the development of sustainable micro-enterprises
  • Promote women's leadership and participation in community decision-making

Impact

The SHG Development project has successfully formed and supported 50 self-help groups comprising over 600 women. These groups have collectively mobilized savings of over ₹15 lakhs and accessed credit facilities worth ₹40 lakhs. The project has led to the establishment of 75 women-led micro-enterprises in various sectors including handicrafts, food processing, and retail.

Success Stories

Lakshmi Devi, a member of Jai Mata Di SHG in Bettiah, started a small tailoring business with a loan of ₹20,000 from her group. Today, she employs three other women from her village and earns a monthly income of ₹15,000. Her success has inspired many other women in her community to pursue entrepreneurship.

Future Plans

We plan to scale up the SHG Development project by forming 100 additional self-help groups over the next three years. We also aim to establish SHG federations at the block level to enhance the collective bargaining power of women's groups and facilitate their access to larger markets and government schemes.
